Blog Commercial Please help NKCDC pick our next tenant

We decided to try something different

Earlier this year, NKCDC posted a request for proposals to use a vacant lot it owns at 2211-2217 Frankford Avenue. We received several excellent proposals. Now we need help from community residents to make our final decision on how to use the space.

We are seeking uses that will be beneficial to the local community and align with NKCDC’s values, work, and commitment to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion.

FISHTOWN DISTRICT

Monthly Small Business Marketplace

The Fishtown Kensington Area BID would like to use 2211-17 Frankford Ave as a marketplace for local artists and entrepreneurs. Their plan is to bring their monthly vendor series, the Under the EL Bazaar, from Front St to Frankford Ave. Started in 2021, the Under the El Bazaar is a monthly vendor market featuring over 25 makers that sell everything from home goods to food products. In 2021, the Fishtown BID hosted four Under the El Bazaar events in partnership with Evil Genius Brewing Co. The Bazaars also featured musical performances by local artists and ran from 5-8 p.m. in the evening.

MURAL CITY CELLARS

Wine Garden

Mural City Cellars is Philadelphia’s first independently-owned urban winery. Located in Kensington, Mural City Cellars sources grapes for their wine locally from within a 300-mile radius of Philadelphia and works with Philadelphia-based artists to create their labels. Mural City Cellars offers the country’s first Community Supported Winery (CSW) membership program, which collects funds from members to support local farmers in exchange for two bottles of wine monthly. 15% of the cost of each membership is also donated to local organizations. Mural City Cellars is a minority and woman-owned business. The owners are residents of East Kensington.

Mural City proposes the use of 2211-2217 Frankford as a summer wine garden where guests can enjoy their locally-made wines. They would also offer space for local vendors to market and sell their products.
