New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) is a community development corporation committed to sustainable development in housing opportunities, economic development, vacant land strategies, community engagement, health and wellness, and real estate development. Our current work using a trauma-informed community engagement model, applying a racial equity lens across the organization, and leading programs at the intersection of health and housing are keeping NKCDC at the cutting edge of community development. Function 

The Community Health Worker Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting in managing the Community Health Worker (CHW) program. This role involves coordinating training, supporting the professional development of CHWs, and ensuring effective community outreach and engagement. The coordinator will facilitate the implementation of health initiatives, foster relationships with community partners, and ensure that the program meets its goals in enhancing community well-being.

Responsibilities 

  • Program Management: 
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the CHW program, including the coordination and support of CHW training, orientation, and ongoing development. 
  • Ensure that CHWs are effectively engaged in community outreach and that they adhere to program guidelines and goals. 
  • Training and Development: 
  • Coordinate training sessions for new CHW cohorts, including preparation, orientation, and support throughout the training process. 
  • Assist instructors with training logistics and content, ensuring that CHWs receive comprehensive and effective training. 
  • Community Outreach and Engagement: 
  • Facilitate CHWs in engaging with community members to assess and address needs related to housing, utilities, health, nutrition, and other services. 
  • Support CHWs in conducting surveys, collecting data, and documenting outreach activities. 
  • Relationship Building: 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, city agencies, businesses, and schools to enhance resources and support for the CHW program. 
  • Build and strengthen connections between NKCDC, internship partners, and other organizations to create opportunities for CHWs. 
  • Administrative and Reporting: 
  • Provide administrative support and coordination for the CHW program, including documentation, activity tracking, and report preparation. 
  • Maintain accurate records of training, outreach efforts, and program impact. 
  • Event Coordination: 
  • Organize and plan community events, workshops, and other outreach activities to promote health initiatives and engage residents. 
  • Professional Development: 
  • Facilitate ongoing professional development for CHWs, including access to training, workshops, and career advancement opportunities. 
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for CHWs, providing guidance and support for their professional growth. 
  • Other Duties: 
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the overall goals and needs of the CHW program. 

Qualifications 

  • Community Health Worker (CHW) certification or equivalent training is highly preferred. 
  • Previous experience in community outreach, engagement, or program coordination is preferred. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. 
  • Comfort with public speaking and engaging with diverse audiences. 
  • Basic computing knowledge, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Familiarity with the Kensington neighborhood a plus. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, flexibility, and attention to detail.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse people.  
  • Flexibility to work off-site, and to work evenings, and weekends occasionally as needed. 

Compensation 

The rate for this position will be $59,572.15/Annually with a full-time schedule, 35 hours per week.  To counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, we use a nonnegotiable starting salary system, while benchmarking our pay to competitive markets in the nonprofit sector. Excellent benefits include an HMO health plan, long- and short-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid vacation, and a 403(b)-retirement plan. Work hours are from 9am-5pm. This position will be on-site at our central office, 2771 Ruth Street, Suite 1, Philadelphia, PA 19134.

Hiring Process  

Our hiring process includes a 20–30-minute interview with HR, followed by an in-person interview with the hiring manager, and finally an hour-long “panel” interview with 3-4 staff members. Reference checks are conducted after the final interview.
