The Legal Clinic for the Disabled (LCD) provides free, civil legal services for low-income individuals and the Deaf and hard-of-hearing. Disabilities include physical, mental and chronic illnesses such as depression, high blood pressure and asthma. LCD helps with a variety of civil legal issues including landlord-tenant/housing issues, immigration, protection from abuse, benefits/social security, powers of attorney, guardianships and utilities.

Sherry Thomas is the Director of the Housing Initiative at LCD. After several years practicing in the areas of family law, domestic violence, estate planning and public benefits, Sherry now concentrates her practice in tenant defense and tenants’ rights and oversees LCD’s Housing Initiative. She provides direct legal services to individuals and engages in systemic reform through her work in the Philadelphia Eviction Prevention Project. She is a member of several teams implementing recommendations from the Mayor’s Eviction Task Force. Over the years, Sherry has trained lawyers, healthcare professionals and other non-lawyers in the areas of housing, estate planning and domestic violence law. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Temple Law School.

Sarah Zinn is a staff attorney at LCD, where she practices in the areas of housing, guardianship, and general civil legal matters. She coordinates LCD’s Guardianship Initiative for profoundly disabled young adults and LCD’s general intake division. Sarah defends tenants in eviction proceedings in Philadelphia’s landlord-tenant court and provides legal assistance in a number of practice areas. Prior to her work at LCD, Sarah clerked for judges in Philadelphia’s court system and in Philadelphia’s Mortgage Foreclosure Diversion Program, which aims to prevent homelessness by preventing residential foreclosures. She is a graduate of Villanova University and Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
