Community Garden Application

Build a community garden with support from NKCDC
About this opportunity
As part of a community revitalization plan focused on health, wellness, and healing, New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) has partnered with Rite Aid Healthy Futures to build, maintain, and program several garden spaces. The goal is improved health outcomes for children and families in Kensington, Philadelphia.
This opportunity for community-run gardens includes $3,000 – $5,000 in financial support for each space, and comes with free programming from NKCDC’s Community Health Workers and nutrition education team, as well as our new Cure Violence initiative. NKCDC programming will include services like meal kits, emergency food assistance, SNAP-Ed nutrition education, healthy cooking classes, and health resources. Community leaders/resident sponsors will be given access to training about community gardening as well as trauma.
Eligibility
Eligible spaces include existing gardens or proposed gardens. Priority will be given to sites that are within the area bounded by Allegheny, Frankford and Lehigh Avenues and Front Street, as shown on the map. Applicants must have some form of control over their proposed garden site, and must be willing to provide public access to their garden and encourage neighbors to participate in activities on the site.
Your commitment
Community leaders/resident sponsors for each garden space must commit to maintaining their space, keeping it accessible to everyone, allowing NKCDC programming there, and working to get more neighbors to participate.
