Submit an EventIn celebration of the anniversary of March for Safety and Solutions, NKCDC is holding “Advocacy for the Avenue” on March 25th from 4PM-6PM at the Kensington Engagement Center!
4 years ago, after the ‘indefinite’ closure of the Somerset El Station in Kensington, residents, community groups, nonprofits, elected officials, and SEPTA workers came together for a March for Safety and Solutions. The pressure exerted by residents and community groups created a significant moment of collective power to address the neighborhood’s challenges and collective goals. After only 2 weeks of the station’s ‘indefinite’ closure, SEPTA announced the reopening of the Somerset station.
This year, we’re celebrating the anniversary at the newly opened Kensington Engagement Center, a space that serves as an interactive exhibit space, a place for residents to access resources and services, and a center for conversations with the community so Kensington residents can co-create the neighborhood’s future. The first exhibit at the space, Kensington Avenue: Remembering the Past, Shaping the Future, explores the economic development and cultural identity of the Kensington Avenue commercial corridor.
Join us on the 25th to celebrate a significant moment of the community coming together to create change and to continue taking action by advocating for safe transportation on the Avenue!
