Blog Housing Up to $10,000 for down payment or closing costs

This summer the City of Philadelphia launched Philly First Home. This program offers a home buyer assistance grant of up to $10,000 to help first-time home buyers with down payment or closing costs.

To qualify, homebuyers must complete a free City-funded home ownership counseling program, like those offered by NKCDC, before signing an Agreement of Sale.

You must also be a first-time home buyer or a buyer who has not owned a home for at least three years, and must purchase a single-family home or duplex in Philadelphia. Condominiums are not eligible.

Philly First Home comes on top of several City home repair initiatives:

  • Restore, Repair, Renew helps Philadelphia homeowners access low-interest rate loans to invest in their properties.
  • Basic Systems Repair Program provides free repairs to the electrical, plumbing, and heating systems of owner-occupied homes.
  • Adaptive Modifications Program helps individuals with permanent physical disabilities live more independently in the home.
  • Weatherization Assistance Program helps homeowners and renters make their homes more energy efficient.

NKCDC and the City know that helping people stay in the homes they have is an important way to improve health, strengthen communities, and prevent homelessness. For help accessing these programs, please visit Philly First Home, or call us at 215-427-0350.
