Housing Counseling
NKCDC expands homeownership opportunities for low-and moderate-income families. The department has helped more then 3,500 low and moderate income families purchase their first homes and avoid foreclosure. Our current priority is to establish the one stop approach to helping families of all income categories establish some level of self sufficiently through our many programs.
NKCDC's housing counselors are ready to assist clients in resolving any issue. The priority is to educate and empower the client to be self sufficient in the future. We feel budget planning is important to all households. Our goal is to have clients establish a saving account, especially if there is an excess of income left over after expenses have been paid.
Eligible first-time homebuyers can set up a one-on-one appointment to review income, savings, and credit. If clients are bank-ready, we will set them up for a 4 hour workshop where NKCDC partners with banks, realtors, and insurance companies to help give the client important information they will need to become a homeowner. After the workshop clients receive necessary counseling certificates that are required for various assistance programs. The client is then ready to start looking for a property. The client can not go to settlement until the workshop is completed. NKCDC also does pre-closing education through a partnership with the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency.
NKCDC also offers the following counseling: Refinancing, Home Repair Loans, Credit Repair, Anti-Predatory, Default Delinquency, Budgeting, and assistance in setting up a tax agreement.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please call 215-427-0350 and ask to speak to an available housing counselor.
